These wooden serving bowls are hand made by Einstein Albert, the #1 wood craftsman of Haiti. His family, originally from Jamacia, came to Haiti in the 1940’s and began the wood working business in a community near Port au Prince.

Einstein is now running the business which his father founded. In looking to the future, he established a number of tree farms, by planting the fast growing gum tree called Gommier or Obeechi. This type of tree was chosen because it is not suitable for making charcoal, which is a major deforestation problem in Haiti. The tree can grow to a circumference of 90” within 9 years. Much needed employment is given to men to oversee the farms, cutting of trees and the initial hand cutting of the bowls. The sanding and finishing work is done by a team of Haitian women.

Each wooden bowl is of the highest quality. The varnishes are produced organically from a variety of other trees, giving the rich dark brown color to the finished piece.  The wooden bowls are treated against termites. 14 coats of a special varnish are applied, with fine sanding done between each coat, the final coat, being a matte finish. Custome

Customer comments:

I just received the bowls and they are absolutely gorgeous. I had ordered one for my sister for Christmas and I just had to have one for myself. And now I have 2! The craftsmanship is exquisite and I am so happy to have something in my house from the lovely island of Haiti. I know life there right now is not easy so I appreciate the speed of which I received my merchandise. LM
